The project of management and assessment of persistent organic pollutants, endocrine disrupting chemical and mercury.

Absrtact
The achievements made in this project included: 1) The latest information on the Stockholm Convention and international control strategies of the perfluorooctanoic acid, dicofol, perfluorohexane sulfonic acid, short-chain chlorinated paraffins, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, hexabromocyclododecane, hexabromobiphenyl and dioxin were collected, and recommendations for control strategies of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) were proposed to related administrative agencies in Taiwan.; 2) The working-group meetings were held in according to the “National Implementation Plan of the Republic of China (R.O.C., Taiwan) under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants” (NIP) to revised the NIP, and the National Report of POPs in 2017, and the project renewed content of the “POPs Website”, of which, the function were also expanded.; 3) The information on the implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury from other countries were collected. The project also held a seminar in Japan for experience exchange, and proposed control advice for related government departments. Through the meeting between departments, the regulations were amended to strengthen control on mercury products to reach the goal of elimination of mercury products in 2020. The “Promotion plan for implementation of Minamata Convention of United Nations” and National Report of Mercury management achievement in 2017 have been renewed. Additionally, the project also renewed the content of the website to enhance public awareness of mercury. 4) The latest information on highly concerned substances list and management strategies for endocrine disrupting chemicals from other countries were collected. The list of endocrine disrupting chemicals, working group members and the work distribution for “The management plan of endocrine disrupting chemicals (Phase two)” were renewed. The 2017 report submitted by the working group members were also collected and consolidated. 5) Finished the integration of the information websites for POPs, mercury and endocrine disrupting chemicals and established a reporting and management system for cross-departmental implementation accomplishment.
